9th Annual Granville Johnson Bluegrass Festival | Saturday, March 10 – 7:00pm
Type:Live Music Location:25 N Madison Ave, North Vernon IN
Don’t miss the 9th Annual Granville Johnson Bluegrass Festival that will be held Saturday, March 10, at North Vernon’s Park Theatre Civic Center. Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.
The headline group will be the Greencards. The band is a multinational foursome made up of Australians Carolyn Young on bass and vocals and Kym Warner on mandolin with Americans Carl Miner on guitar and Tyler Andel on fiddle. The group also utilizes the viola, bouzouki and other instruments with what critics call superb technique and conceptual adventurousness.
Part of the progressive bluegrass “newgrass” movement, the Greencards draw from a wide range of musical influences such as Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Celtic tone of Irish traditional music and Latin sounds to produce what has been called a distinctive American sound.
The group recently released its fourth album, “Fascination,” that some say is its most daring accomplishment to date.
“These guys are good,” said Tracy Thompson, one of the festival’s organizers. “You don’t have to like bluegrass to enjoy their music. They are wonderfully diverse and different.”
Also performing will be The Granville Johnson Tribute Band and acts yet to be announced. Stay tuned!
